Jewelry-making Studio and Classes
Meltdown Studio, located in downtown Albuquerque, NM is a jewelry/small metals school and open studio workspace. In addition to offering jewelry classes at all levels, Meltdown offers a working studio space, houses five permanent “Bench Mate” artist benches, and is the working studio of jewelry artist Lauren Tobey. Follow us in our journey of creativity!
Lauren began working as a bench jeweler in 2001 under a local Albuquerque artist. During this time she was exposed to the business aspect of crafting for a living and began her own entrepreneurial endeavors.
Her artistic spirit compelled Lauren toward exploration, and she spent the next years traveling in Spain and Central America. After living in Costa Rica for two years and taking inspiration from natural materials, Lauren was able to incorporate these collected materials and use them in her designs. She continues to seek inspiration in her surroundings.
In 2006 Lauren opened Meltdown Studio, which has created a community of artists who are interested in teaching, learning, and sharing techniques within the field of small metals and jewelry. Lauren hopes to share her passion for jewelry and to provide opportunities for others to explore their own creativity.
“Hi Lauren, I just want to say I’m real proud of you! you have grown up so much and It’s been a pleasure to watch you grow. See you Monday so I can move in.”
“You’re the bestest!”
